laneway - INTERACTIVE street art COMPETITION
Are you a budding young artist? Do you want the opportunity to showcase your skills to our city,
Ōtautahi-Christchurch this summer? This is your opportunity!
The Peebles Group, with support from Matapopore, is running a competition to find 3 interactive artworks for the Guthrey Lane development in the central city. The selected artist(s) will have the opportunity to work with a renowned Ngāi Tahu artist to develop their work further to include Māori icons and language, as well as winning prize money.
Guthrey Lane is a bustling space running off Cashel Mall. You can design one wall or all 3, the choice is yours. The spaces are located on highly visible walls located on buildings along the laneway. We have 3 spaces available ranging from 8m2 to 42m2, However we encourage the art to spread as creatively as you like!
SUBMISSIONS TO BE SUBMITTED TO TOM@DCMURBAN.COM BY DECEMBER 20TH AT 4PM
The AVAILABLE spaces:
The Lichfield area wall is the largest and most visible wall space along the laneway. The main paintable wall measures a total area of approximately 42m2, however we actively encourage concepts that push beyond this space, even onto the ground! For this space we are looking for art pieces that promote creative expression and can be interacted with by the public.
The Ballantynes area wall is located above the entranceway into Ballantynes with a total paintable area of approximately 15m2. This art wall includes a planter box with vines that will grow over the wall. It is envisioned that the art piece would incorporate this into the design.
East Entrance Wall
The east area entrance wall is a tall narrow wall that that wraps around on both sides. The total art space measures approximately 8m2. For this space we are looking for art pieces that take advantage of the dual aspect of the wall.
